The Chicago market

Architectural rendering for Chicago projects

Chicago is a city of masonry and steel: two-flats and three-flats in the neighbourhoods, mid-rise mixed-use buildings on the commercial streets, old warehouses converted to offices and lofts, and towers along the river and the lake.

Chicago buildings are judged on their materials, so brick, stone and metal must look real in every image.

A Chicago project often has to fit into a block of older masonry buildings, or reuse one. We model the brick, the stone details and the steel windows of the existing building from your photographs and drawings, so the new work can be judged next to them. Chicago also has real winters, and a project that is marketed from November to March can be shown in snow.

Our portfolio does not include a Chicago project yet. The images on this page are from projects with the same building types in Europe and Canada: brick and glass offices, a converted stone factory, loft offices and a waterfront condominium. Each one is labelled with the country it is really in.

Questions

Questions from Chicago clients

Questions about price, timing and files are answered on our FAQ page.

Ask us directly
Can you show an adaptive reuse project, with the old building and the new work together?
Yes. We model the existing building first, from photographs and survey drawings, and then add the new work as drawn: new floors, new openings, a new entrance or a new interior. The same camera can show the building before and after, which helps at community meetings.
Can you render a tower on the river or the lakefront with the skyline behind it?
Yes. The nearby buildings are modelled in simple form from maps, and the skyline behind can come from a photograph taken from the viewpoint, if you have one. The new tower is always modelled in full detail.
Do you render masonry details such as brick patterns, stone lintels and terracotta?
Yes. Details that are visible in the view are modelled in 3D, not only drawn as a flat texture, so they cast shadows and look right in close views. Send the elevations and the details, and photographs of the existing brick if the new work must match it.
Can you make images for a Plan Commission review or a community meeting?
Yes. We make eye-level views from the street and aerial views of the block, with the neighbouring buildings modelled, from the viewpoints you need to show. Tell us the meeting date when you ask for a quote.
