How it works

How to convert DXF to PDF or SVG online

3 steps, and the drawing never leaves your computer.

1. Open the DXF

Drop the .dxf file on the converter or click to choose it. It is read in your browser, so a confidential drawing never leaves your computer.

2. Check the sheets

Model space and every layout are listed. Click View to see each one, and choose the paper size and black and white or colour.

3. Save as PDF or SVG

Choose PDF for printing and sharing, one page per sheet, or SVG for a laser cutter, a plotter or a website, one file per sheet.

DXF to PDF

A vector PDF that stays sharp at any zoom. Layouts plot 1:1 on their own sheet size, so a plan at 1:100 in the drawing measures 1:100 on paper.

DXF to SVG

An SVG with the drawing in millimetres on the chosen paper, so it comes into Illustrator, Inkscape, LightBurn or a browser at the right size. Hatches stay filled shapes, text stays text.

DXF viewer

Use it only to look: zoom and pan the drawing, check its layouts and see which layers are switched off. Nothing is saved unless you click Download.

What it cannot do yet

It does not convert DXF to DWG or to a 3D STL, and it does not read binary DXF, which few programs write. Images, 3D solids and linked references are left out.

What is the difference between DXF and DWG?

Both hold the same AutoCAD drawing. DWG is AutoCAD's own compact format; DXF is a text version made so other programs can read and write it. This converter opens both, so you can drop either one.

Which DXF versions does it open?

ASCII DXF from AutoCAD 2000 to the current 2018 format, as written by AutoCAD, Revit, Archicad, SketchUp, Rhino and most other CAD and laser-cutting programs. Older DXF files usually open too. Binary DXF, which few programs save, is not supported.

Is the SVG the right size for laser cutting?

Yes. The SVG is in millimetres: with the paper set to Automatic, a layout keeps its real scale, and model space is fitted to the paper you choose. Check the size in your laser software before cutting, as some programs import SVG at 96 dots per inch.

Why are some parts of my drawing missing?

Layers that are switched off or frozen in the drawing are left out, as in AutoCAD. Images, 3D solids and external references are not drawn either. Turn the layers on and save the DXF again if you need them.

Can it convert DXF to DWG or STL?

Not yet. DXF to DWG needs a DWG writer, which has no free open version, and DXF to STL needs the 2D shapes turned into 3D solids first. PDF and SVG are what this converter saves today.
