How it works

How to convert an FBX file

3 steps, and the file never leaves your computer.

1. Add the FBX file

Drop the .fbx on the converter or click to choose it. If its textures are separate image files, select them at the same time, or zip the folder and drop the .zip.

2. Check the model

The model opens in a 3D preview with its materials. The panel shows the triangle count and the size, so you can see whether the scale came through.

3. Save as OBJ, GLB or STL

OBJ and GLB keep the materials and textures. STL keeps only the shape, for 3D printing. STEP gives a CAD program something it can measure.

Export to FBX

How to export FBX from Blender, Revit, SketchUp and 3ds Max

This converter cannot write FBX, but your 3D program can. These are the menu steps.

Blender to FBX

In Blender, choose File > Export > FBX (.fbx). To export part of the scene, select those objects and tick Selected Objects. Set Path Mode to Copy and turn on Embed Textures, so the images travel inside the FBX. Then click Export FBX.

Revit to FBX

Open a 3D view that shows what you want to export, then choose File > Export > FBX. Revit exports only what is visible in that view, so hide what you do not need first. For BIM data rather than a visual model, export IFC instead.

SketchUp to FBX

In SketchUp Pro, choose File > Export > 3D Model and pick FBX as the file type. Under Options, tick Export texture maps. SketchUp's free web version cannot save FBX, but it can save STL, which this converter can open.

3ds Max to FBX

Choose File > Export > Export, pick Autodesk (*.FBX) as the file type and click Save. In the FBX options, tick Embed Media to include the textures. Use Export Selected to export only the objects you selected.

What an FBX file can be converted to

The converter opens FBX and 17 other 3D formats. It cannot save FBX: no browser tool can write it reliably, so for that use the export steps above.

FBX.fbx

Opens binary and ASCII FBX with materials and textures. Animation, bones, cameras and lights are not converted.

A converter changes the file format. Heavy scenes, broken materials and models built at the wrong scale need modelling work, which is what we do.

Can I convert a Blender file to FBX here?

No. A .blend file can only be read by Blender itself, so no online converter can open it properly. Blender exports FBX in a few clicks: File > Export > FBX (.fbx). The steps and the settings that keep your textures are on this page.

Can this converter save files as FBX?

No. It opens FBX and saves OBJ, GLB, glTF, STL, STEP, PLY and 3DM. FBX is a closed Autodesk format and no browser tool writes it reliably, so we do not offer an FBX output that might break in your software.

What happens to animation and rigging?

They are left out. The converter saves the model in its first pose, with its materials and textures. If you need the animation, keep the FBX, or export glTF from your 3D program, which also stores animation.

Why are the textures missing after converting?

The FBX points to texture images that were not opened with it. Either embed the textures when you export the FBX (Embed Textures in Blender, Embed Media in 3ds Max), or select the image files together with the .fbx.

Which format should I use for Unity or Unreal Engine?

Both engines import FBX directly, so keep the FBX if you have it. For the web, AR and three.js, convert to GLB, which is smaller and packs the textures into the same file.
