How it works

How to convert a PNG to STL

3 steps, and the file never leaves your computer.

1. Drop the PNG

Drop a PNG, JPG or WebP. A logo on a plain background, or a photo with clear contrast, works best.

2. Set the size and height

Choose the width in millimetres, the height of the raised parts and the base, and see the 3D preview update.

3. Download the STL

Save as STL for your slicer, or OBJ for a 3D program.

What works for logos, and what works for photos.

Logos and icons

Use a high-contrast PNG, black on white or on a transparent background. Dark parts become the raised shape.

Photos as lithophanes

A lithophane is thin where the photo is light and thick where it is dark. Print it in white and hold it to a light.

Resolution

A PNG of about 1000 pixels across gives fine detail. Very large images make heavy STL files with no visible gain.

Transparent backgrounds

Transparent areas are read as white, so they stay flat on the base and only the logo stands up.

How do I convert a PNG to STL for free?
Drop the PNG on the converter on this page, set the size and height, and download the STL. It is free, with no sign-up, and the image is not uploaded.
Can I turn a logo into a 3D print?
Yes. Use a high-contrast PNG of the logo. The dark shapes become raised, and you set how high and how big.
How do I make a lithophane from a photo?
Drop the photo and leave Raise the light areas off, so dark areas print thick. Set the size, print it in white filament standing up, and light it from behind.
Can I convert JPG to STL too?
Yes. JPG and WebP work the same way as PNG. The image to STL page has more on reliefs and maps.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It is converted in this browser tab on your own computer and never sent to us or anyone else.
