Free OBJ viewer
With MTL materials and textures

Drop an OBJ file from Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush or a scanner, together with its MTL and texture files, and see it in 3D with its materials, its size and its triangle count.

Nothing is uploaded: the model opens in your browser on your own computer.

Free, no sign-up. Your file stays on your computer. It is opened in this browser tab and is never uploaded to us or anyone else.

  • Save as STL, GLB, STEP or 3DM
How it works

How to open an OBJ file online

3 steps, and the file never leaves your computer.

1. Drop the files

Select the .obj, the .mtl and the texture images together and drop them at once, so the materials come with the model.

2. Look around

Rotate, pan and zoom. Each group in the OBJ is listed as a part, with the size and triangle count below the model.

3. Save a copy if needed

Save as GLB for the web, STL for 3D printing, STEP for CAD or 3DM for Rhino.

What you see

What the OBJ viewer shows

What to check before using a model.

Materials from the MTL

Colours and textures from the MTL file are applied, so you can see whether the texture paths in the file are right.

Size and units

OBJ files carry no units. The size shown is in the units the file was saved in, so a model 100 times too big or small is easy to spot.

Groups and objects

Every group and object in the OBJ is listed as a part, so you can find what is missing or doubled.

What it does not do

It does not edit, repair or retopologise the mesh. For a clean model, ask us for 3D modeling.

From 3D file to images

What we make from 3D models

Designers, developers and manufacturers send us their 3D files to be turned into images and films that sell.

OBJ viewer FAQ

Questions about OBJ files

Formats, materials, size and privacy.

Ask us a question
Why does my OBJ open without colours?
The colours and textures live in the .mtl file and the image files beside the .obj. Drop all of them at once and the materials are applied.
What units is an OBJ in?
OBJ has no units. The numbers in the file mean whatever the program that saved it used, usually metres or centimetres. Check the size shown and scale if needed.
Can I convert OBJ to STL for 3D printing?
Yes. Choose STL and download. For a print-ready check, the STL viewer also shows whether the model is watertight.
Is my model uploaded?
No. The file is opened in this browser tab on your own computer and is never sent to us or anyone else. It is free, with no sign-up.
