How it works

How to convert Revit to IFC online

3 steps, a few minutes for most models.

1. Drop the .rvt file

Drop the Revit file, enter your email and click Convert and open. The file goes straight from your browser to Autodesk's conversion service in the EU.

2. Check the IFC

The IFC opens here in a few minutes: a 95 MB model took about 2 and a half minutes in our test. Check the levels, the element types and the properties.

3. Download the IFC

Click Download the converted file. Open it in Archicad, Tekla, Solibri, BIMcollab or any other IFC program, or send it to whoever asked for an IFC.

IFC 2x3 Coordination View

The version most BIM programs, model checkers and authorities read. It is written by the same IFC exporter that Revit uses, with its default settings.

Levels and element types

Revit levels become IFC building storeys, and walls, slabs, doors, windows, roofs and stairs keep their IFC types, so they can be filtered and counted.

Properties

Property sets come across with each element. Our test model, a 6-storey apartment building, kept about 25,000 of them.

What it does not do

It does not include linked Revit models: convert each linked file on its own. It always uses the default export settings. For IFC4 or custom mappings, export from Revit itself (File > Export > IFC).

How do I convert a Revit file to IFC without Revit?
Drop the .rvt or .rfa file on the converter on this page. Autodesk's conversion service turns it into IFC, the IFC opens here to check, and you download it. You need no Revit licence and no Autodesk account.
Which IFC version do I get?
IFC 2x3 Coordination View 2.0, written by Revit's own IFC exporter with its default settings. That is the version Archicad, Tekla, Solibri, BIMcollab and most model checkers read. If you need IFC4 or custom settings, export from Revit with File > Export > IFC.
Does the IFC keep the levels and the properties?
Yes. Levels become IFC building storeys, elements keep their IFC types, and the property sets come across. Our 95 MB test model kept its 6 levels and about 25,000 property sets.
How big can the Revit file be?
Up to 2 GB, and up to 3 files a day. Larger models: send us a download link with the quote form and our team converts the file for free.
What happens to my Revit file?
It is uploaded straight from your browser to Autodesk's storage in the EU, converted, and deleted by Autodesk within 24 hours. It is never stored on our server. We keep your email, the file name and its size.
I only want to look at the model. Is there a viewer?
Yes: the free Revit viewer opens .rvt files the same way, and the IFC viewer opens IFC files without uploading them.
